前些天看到中文
“吃苦”一词进了纽约时报的报道,并且直译为eating bitterness。这个词对任何中国人都不陌生,但对纽约时报显然很有新闻价值。本来想欧美人尤其是目前领导世界的西北日耳曼人应该不知道这个概念,但不是这样的。这里有句话,和吃苦差不多的意思:
“The man who can drive himself further once the effort gets painful is the man who will win.”
鞭策自己直到痛苦不堪的人会赢,基本就是吃得苦中苦,方为人上人。这句话是世界是第一个在4分钟内跑完1英里的人,
Roger Bannister说的,英国人,他于1954年创造了那个世界纪录。
还有个英国人Bertrand Russel说的另一句话也很好:
“There is no use talking about the problem unless you talk about the solution.”
